In case of a boil water advisory, those affected will receive a notification on their door with time and date of the advisory and what precautions to take. Getting a notification on your door does not mean that your water is contaminated, it is a precautionary measure only.
Things to know if you are under a boil water advisory:
- DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for 3 minutes, and let it cool before using it. Or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water.
- Water used for bathing, washing clothes, etc. does not require boiling.
- Water samples will be taken and analyzed once repair work has been completed.
- Water Advisory will remain in effect for a minimum of 18 hours.
- If there is an issue, SMWSC will notify customers.
